How to cheaply make an artificial Christmas tree look fuller

The Art of Creating a Fuller Artificial Christmas Tree on a Budget

Artificial Christmas trees are great for people who don’t have time to fuss over a live tree. But they’re not always the most attractive alternative. Many artificial trees have a very uniform look, and if you don’t want to spend a lot of money on decorating, it can be hard to make your tree look fuller and more interesting.

Here are some tips for making an artificial tree look fuller without spending much money:

  • Buy a bigger tree than you think you need. If you buy a small artificial tree, it will look even smaller in your living room or bedroom. Also, remember that when you’re shopping for an artificial tree, the branches might seem full but once you start decorating with lights and ornaments, the branches will look empty again. When buying an artificial tree, buy one that’s about three feet taller than your ceiling height. Then trim off the bottom part of each branch so it will fit nicely in your room without touching the ceiling when standing up straight.
  • Use lights with different wattages. Some areas will require more wattage than others, which will help spread the light around the tree and make it look fuller.

Optimize Lighting

Be sure to check all the lights before putting them on the tree or taking them off each year. If any have blown out or gotten loose during storage, replace them before using the tree again so that you don’t get shocked when plugging in the lights for use at home!

  • Add a tree skirt to hide the base. This will make the tree look taller, too.
  • Use flocked ornaments that match the color of your tree to fill in any gaps between branches and leaves. You can also buy pre-decorated trees if you don’t want to hassle with putting on ornaments yourself.
  • Use strands of lights or garland around the bottom of your tree to cover up any bare spots in the middle of each branch so they don’t stick out as much from your ceiling or wall.
  • Place small gifts under larger gifts — like a single stocking on top of a pile of presents — to give it more depth and shape while keeping it fuller looking at eye level.
  • Add more color. The more color you add to your artificial Christmas tree, the fuller it will appear. Try adding colored lights to your white tree or using multi-colored ornaments on a green one. You could also use a large red bow at the top of your tree if that fits with the decor in your home.
  • Group accessories together by color or theme. If you have similar items in different colors and sizes, group them together so they stand out as one unit instead of lots of little ones scattered around the tree. This can help even out the appearance of a sparsely decorated artificial Christmas tree and make it look fuller than it really is!
  • Use lots of different shapes and sizes of ornaments on your artificial Christmas tree instead of just round ones ornaments — this will help create visual interest and make it look more full than it actually is! You’ll be amazed at how much difference this makes in an otherwise plain looking artificial Christmas tree!
